The IPL fever might have taken the entire nation for a sweep but members of Holland Hockey Federation, who are presently in India, gave a great time to a bunch of rescued child labourers teaching them tricks of the trade themselves.
The event occurred when members of Holland Hockey Federation decided to visit a leading Child Rights organization, Bachpan Bachao Andolan in Delhi and went ahead to visit their transitory rehabilitation centre, Mukti Ashram, in the outskirts of Delhi. They interacted with the recently rescued child labourers and gifted hockey sticks to them. Realizing that most of them had little or no information about the game, they even taught them the basics and had a friendly session in the Ashram.
Rizwan, one of the children in Mukti Ashram who was rescued from a Bindi factory in Khajoorikhas area on March 9, looked visibly excited and said, “I like hockey. We used to watch lot of matches on TV. I am glad I have my own hockey stick now and I can practice whenever I wish”.
Edwin, the organizer of the delegation said, “Children have the right to play as much as they have the right to love and education. We are happy to be here with these children and not only share their sense of freedom but also their love for sport”.
Mr. R.S. Chaurasia, Chairperson of Bachpan Bachao Andolan said, “There was different smile and happiness on the faces of the children when they got the oppurtunity to play and meet the renowned hockey players of Holland. I am sure this expirience not only brought smile on their faces but also seeded the desire to play again. I am gald that Holland hockey team was able to take out some time from their schedule and meet children." |
