Bachpan Bachao Andolan crosses a figure of 80,000 children who have been rescued till date in nation wide raids. Since 1981, BBA has been meticulously working towards the formation of a child labour free society where every individual is educated. Today BBA is synonymous with action on trafficking and child labor. BBA has been successful in preventing the crime of child labour at many work places by direct action (raid and rescue), legal and judicial intervention, awareness campaigns and advocacy.
More than 400 children were rescued during the India Action Week observed in the month of September,2011 during which rigorous raids were conducted all across the country.
These raids have been conducted on complaints filed by BBA with police and Labor Department against the employers/traffickers. The children rescued so far were working as bonded laborers and child laborers in various industries, hotels/dhabas, as domestic servants, prostitutes, circus performers etc.
During its 30 year long battle against child labor, which is still on, BBA lost three of its activists in different massive rescue operations, but has not lost the courage to fight against human rights violation in India and world.
Mukti Caravan is another initiative to end child slavery which is a campaign run by former child laborers turned survivors and activists to instill awareness among the masses about child trafficking and child labor. The troupe of this campaign covers various villages and districts across the country in a mobile van and spreads awareness though elements like Nukkad Natak (street play), collection of complaints of missing and trafficked children, public speaking and brochure distribution.
Our work is dedicated to our activists Kalu Kumar, Adarsh Kishore and Dhoomdas who gave the supreme sacrifice and paved the road towards ending slavery. |
