REVIEW OF THE BOOK “MISSING CHILDREN OF INDIA”

SPONSORED BY BACHPAN BACHAO ANDOLAN – PRICED AT RS.495/- AND PUBLISHED ON 8.12.2011 BY VITASTA – LET KNOWLEDGE SPREAD AND RELEASED BY HON’BLE MR.JUSTICE ALTMASH KABIR OF THE SUPREME COURT OF INDIA AT THE CONSTITUTION CLUB, NEW DELHI.

The Book MISSING CHILDREN OF INDIA is a pioneering study by Bachpan Bachao Andolan, an NGO which is famous for picking up child issues and finds place in the Press in one form or the other. This NGO is also spear-heading the cause of children and recent the Circus Case in which Hon’ble Supreme Court of India gave its historic judgment on the subject is a case at hand. The NGO had traced and shaped the history of Child Labour movement not just in India but across the world and had generated Global awareness through its various campaigns including global marches against Child Labour in 103 countries in the year 1998 leading to ILO convention 182.

The instant book is the first of its kind on this important subject which is almost forgotten if not regular pursued. This book contains in depth study from every angle. This book has been segregated very beautifully in respect of the scope and research study, methodology, present Institutional Frame Work, findings in the research study with effective results in it. There is complete continuity of the subject and there is no break in the thinking process of the reader. After going through this book, one comes across the hard labour put in by the expert team of BBA which merits only praise. The hard work reflects in the material which is based on RTI information which is authentic and relevant while the information gathered through RTI reflects the time spent for such purpose. The reader will find utmost interest while the social worker will further strengthen this movement by adding to their keen minds who want to involve them in the subject of missing children. The book is also of great value for Researchers on this delicate and sensitive issue of children who require care and protection.

The book is a complete informant in all possible manner on the subject.

After going through this book, an idea comes to mind that still more in-depth study can be put in by the takes on the subject. It is felt that excellent remarkable approach shall be further strengthened by the experts of the BBA. At the same time, the book gives a message that the Government of the day only finds solutions and satisfaction in granting funds to the Government agencies and committees. It will be more useful for the Government of the day to allot their funds to such organizations/NGOs who work with full zeal and zenith. The book recommends a highly skilled recommendation, rapid response agency/task force on missing children. Formation of National Centre for missing and exploited children and the establishment of a Centralized Data Bank on the subject is required. After going through this Book, it can be recommended that development of a standard operative procedure for investigation and propose a definition of missing children in more effective way and for making suitably policies, guide-lines on trafficking and missing children is a must.
