31 Children Rescued from Exploitative Situations Across Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand

Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) rescued a total of 31 children from various districts across Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 12 September, 2023.

Under Andhra Pradesh government’s ‘Operation Svechha’, 22 child labourers were rescued from 11 districts of the State. Most of them were working in mechanic and carpenter shops.

Our team produced the rescued children before the Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) of the districts they were rescued from. The Labour Department and the Police have initiated legal action in the matter and BBA is providing all possible support for ensuring proper rehabilitation of the children.

Operation Svechha is a rescue programme initiated by the Andhra Pradesh government for saving trafficked children. Members of Labour Department, Police, Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs), Education Department, Women and Child Development Department, and NGOs take part in raids carried out across the State under the operation.

In some other news, BBA, in collaboration with the local authorities and law-enforcement agencies, conducted a raid and rescue operation to identify and save children involved in begging and picking rags on the streets of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. We rescued 9 children and produced them before the Child Welfare Committe (CWC), Dehradun. The children, the youngest being a 5-year-old, have been sent to Shishu Niketan for rehabilitation. A General Diary (GD) was also filed in the matter at the local police station.
