13 Child Labourers Rescued from Various Establishments in Delhi

On 3rd August 2021, 13 child labourers were rescued by Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) in a rescue operation conducted in coordination with the SDM Mayur Vihar, Tehsildar, the Labour Department and the Police. The children aged 8 to 16 years were rescued from multiple locations – 1 child rescued from a bakery shop, 3 from cycle repair shop, 3 from a dhaba and 6 children from a garment store.

Some of the children were found to be working from the past 2.5 years in these establishments and were receiving only Rs. 50 per week in return of long hours of labour.

One of the child, who was rescued from a dhaba was trafficked from Uttar Pradesh by the employer who had paid an advance of Rs. 20,000 to the family and brought the child to Delhi. Another child rescued from the cycle repair shop also had not received any wages and was only provided with food in lieu of the long hours put into the work.

After the rescue, the children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and were later sent to Mukti Ashram- the rehabilitation centre of BBA on the orders of CWC.

The SDM in this case ordered the following sections of law to be applicable- Sec 3 & 14 of CLPRA, Sec 75 & 79 of JJ Act, Sec 16 & 17 of Bonded labour act, and Sec 370 & 374 of IPC (Trafficking)
