14 Children Rescued from University Canteen

admin1

BBA recently received distressing information about child labourers at a prominent university in Rajkot, Gujarat. Acting promptly, our team verified the information before lodging a complaint with the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs). On 8 June 2023, a rescue operation was conducted, freeing 14 children who were forced to work in the university canteen. These children, aged between 13 and 17 years, revealed that they had been trafficked from different districts of Rajasthan with false promises of a better future. Instead, they endured unimaginable trauma and exploitation in Rajkot. Forced to work long hours in the kitchen without breaks, they suffered physical and mental abuse from their managers for minor mistakes. Communication with their families was restricted, and some were not even paid for their labour. BBA facilitated the registration of the First Information Reports (FIRs) and ensured the children were provided immediate care and protection by placing them in a Child Care Institution (CCI) under the supervision of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). We remain committed to supporting these children, ensuring their rehabilitation and preventing them from falling prey to traffickers in the future.
